CHASS Launches $100,000 Fundraising Campaign to Support Continued Access to Care
DETROIT, MI – The Community Health and Social Services (CHASS) Center in Southwest Detroit is proud to announce it has received the Spirit of Detroit Award from the Detroit City Council. The award, presented by Council Member Gabriela Santiago-Romero on June 17, 2025, honors CHASS for 55 years of unwavering service to Detroit’s medically underserved communities. In recognition of this milestone, CHASS is launching a fundraising campaign to raise $100,000 by the end of 2025. The campaign aims to support essential medical care for uninsured and underinsured patients amid ongoing Medicaid cuts and challenges facing community health centers. The campaign has already received a generous $10,000 lead gift from Nonstop Administration & Insurance Services.

To commemorate its 55th anniversary, CHASS Center will host a series of free, family-friendly events from June through December 2025. These celebrations will take place at the CHASS Southwest Center and its outdoor campus, offering engaging activities for all ages. Events include a seasonal community produce market, wellness programming, and the annual CHASS 5K Run/Walk, all designed to promote healthy lifestyles and community wellness.
2025 CHASS Calendar of Events:
- Thursdays, June 12 to October 2 | 9 AM-1 PM – CHASS Mercado: Seasonal produce market featuring community resources, family-friendly activities, local food, crafts, and Mexican artisanal clothing vendors.
- August 3 to 9 – National Health Center Week (#NHCW2025): A week of celebration with a health fair, family events, and community outreach promoting the vital role of community health centers.
- Saturday, August 9 | 9 AM – CHASS 5K Run/Walk & Kid’s Superhero Race: Enjoy free resources, entertainment, and activities open to the public. Register here for the 5K Run/Walk, Superhero costumes are encouraged for kids and adults.
- October – Bringing Hope to Survivors’ Trunk or Treat for Domestic Violence Awareness: Resources, Kid’s Activities and Prizes free and open to the public.
- December – Santa is Coming to CHASS!A festive community holiday event with photos with Santa, kids’ activities, and wrapped gifts. Prior registration will be required. Accepting toy donations.
